10 years ago today the IRA drove a white transit van with a 3,300 lb bomb in it onto Corporation Street and at 11:17 am they detonated it...see video footage here. 10 years on Manchester City Centre has changed so much, as the bbc put it 'from bomb site to style capital'. Fortunately the IRA gave a warning and the city centre was evacuated, there were a lot of injuries but nobody was killed.
The city centre was re-planned, re-imagined and i guess in some way my job and Sanctus1 have arisen from that...weird how destruction brings life...

Interesting that the only thing to be left standing undamaged by the blast in the immediate area was the postbox, a symbol of communication. I know we don't tend to use it as much any more, what with email; but it is a more striking image of networking and community and conversation as human activities that may bring hope in destruction than a Microsoft Outlook intray...
